First, you may ask: who am I? Or more specifically, what am I? I’ll tell you what I am:
I am the thing that’s scratching at the back of your mind, driving your sanity to a breaking point.
I am the thing you cannot explain, for I take many forms.
I am the force that you cannot kill, or fully defeat; for no matter how many times I die, I will come back. I always do.
I am the thing that wears the clown suit who preys upon you in the fair.
I am the one that’s hiding under your bed. I am also the one hiding in your closet and under your stairs. The basement is my favorite hiding place.
I am the thing that follows you, every time you turn around.
I am the air you inhale. Every time you breathe in, your soul quivers.
I am that eternal darkness; I surround you and trap you. Try and run; you cannot escape from me. Shine a light; it will only reveal your path to certain doom.
I am the thing that is chasing you. Take a vacation, run as far as you can; I will still catch up to you no sooner have you settled down.
I am the nameless entity that stalks you in your dreams. When I strike you down, you wake up with a rapidly beating heart.
I am the anxiety that causes you to quiver with terror; every time you think about me, I enter your thoughts and I never seem to leave.
But most importantly, more than anything else:
I. AM. FEAR.
